The ScreamFree Institute Helps Military Families To Return To A Calm Home
ATLANTA, Feb. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Adjusting to civilian life for military families is a major adjustment, as evidenced in the Oscar-nominated film, American Sniper. One organization, The ScreamFree Institute, has helped over 10,000 such families over the past half dozen years. The non-profit group (www.ScreamFree.com) shows couples how they can strengthen their relationships and their parenting by simply learning to stay cool in the heat of any relationship moment.
Hal Runkel, the founder and president of The ScreamFree Institute, has spoken before 125 military installations in conjunction with an initiative sponsored by the United States Army IMCOM (Installation Management Command). The teachings of The ScreamFree Institute have been shared with over 1,000 Army professionals, who have been now certified as ScreamFree Leaders.
"Parenting or being in a committed relationship has its own built-in stresses, no doubt, but adding in the component of someone coming back from the battlefield sometimes can be overwhelming," says Runkel. "We are here for those who have been there for us."
The organization raises money to help fund vital programming, including their Calm and Connected Retreats, where military couples gather at no cost to them to spend a weekend with certified ScreamFree professionals. Its third annual fundraiser is expected to raise over $100,000 on Oscar night, February 22, at Atlanta's historic Buckhead Theater (www.screamfree.com/BigScream). Donations can be made at the site for those who can't attend but want to show their support for the troops that support us.
The black-tie optional event, complete with red-carpet treatment, "is a major opportunity for the community to come together and show support for the men and women who support our country," says Runkel. He adds that the education and encouragement provided by The ScreamFree Institute is for everyone, but he's especially proud to help members of the military and their families.
Runkel, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, created The ScreamFree Institute after the runaway success of his New York Times bestselling book, ScreamFree Parenting, and then the publication of ScreamFree Marriage. These books ignited a movement towards having family relationships based in calm. Runkel has been featured over 50 times on The Today Show, as well as The 700 Club, The Daily Buzz, The Huffington Post, and scores of major media outlets.
