CARNEGIE, Pa., Dec. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With Christmas only two days away, The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Division's Red Kettle Christmas Campaign is $394,170.67 behind its $2,487,000 goal. Over $73,000 of that total is needed for Allegheny County locations, and Westmoreland County is short by over $67,000. "The fact that we have raised over $2 million thus far speaks volumes about the kindness of Western Pennsylvanians. But reaching our goal is of the utmost importance in our ability to continue to meet the needs of those in our area who rely on us for help in troubled times," said Major William H. Bode, The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Divisional Commander. He continued, "We pray that with the public's continued kindness, we can get there."
There are currently 13 out of the 39 Salvation Army Worship and Service Centers with kettle totals at less than 70 percent of their respective goals. These include: Bradford; Corry; Dubois; Franklin; Kiski Valley; Meadville; New Castle; New Kensington; Pittsburgh's Temple and Westside Worship and Service Centers; Punxsutawney; Sharon/Mercer; and Uniontown. Goals are based on each of the facility's individual budgets. Money raised within each community remains there to support its own residents. People who wish to give who may not be near one of the iconic red kettles are being urged to donate online at www.onlineredkettle.org. 2014 final campaign totals will not be known or reported until the second week in January 2015.
Both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 126 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
