As a credit union founded by a teacher in 1936, Inspirus Credit Union has focused its mission on philanthropy and giving back to education in Washington for over 80 years.
In addition to providing everyday financial services to members, Inspirus demonstrates its mission of giving back to the education community through volunteer time, monetary giveback and in-kind donations.
Inspirus team members volunteer upwards of 1,000 hours each year in education, supporting schools across the state.
Each credit union branch location is a public drop off site accepting donations to support local McKinney-Vento students in the neighboring school districts. Inspirus team members and community members contribute food, school supplies and clothing donations to support these programs, benefitting homeless students.
In addition to in-kind and volunteer giveback, Inspirus donates a portion of net-earnings each year to worthy education initiatives across the state of Washington. In 2016, Inspirus contributed over $295,000 to education in our state. This giveback went to programs such as the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Student Internship Program. This program allows high school students to immerse themselves in science labs for the summer, encouraging their learning about science and biomedical research.
Over $200,000 of Inspirus Credit Union's giveback in 2016 went directly to classrooms through a partnership with DonorsChoose.org, an online crowdfunding site which provides teachers with the critical learning materials for their classrooms that they would otherwise go without.
These donations directly benefit local communities across Washington, supporting the world's future doctors, scientists and lab researchers, teachers and professors, and more.
