The Press Club of Western Pa. & Point Park University News Service host program with "American Pain" author
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- John Temple, author of "American Pain," will speak at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, at 200 Lawrence Hall, Point Park University.
Temple, an associate professor at West Virginia University, wrote the true-crime book, released in September by Lyons Press. "American Pain" chronicles how two Florida brothers built the largest painkiller trafficking ring in the U.S. The book also explores the rise in the abuse of narcotic painkillers over the past two decades.
Temple teaches reporting and writing courses at Reed College of Media. He is the author of two previous nonfiction books: "The Last Lawyer: The Fight to Save Death Row Inmates" (2009) and "Deadhouse: Life in a Coroner's Office" (2005). He taught and studied creative nonfiction writing at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned an M.F.A. He also was a reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the News & Record in Greensboro, N.C., and a government and politics reporter for the Tampa Tribune in Tampa, Fla.
