PURCHASE, N.Y., Sept. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The PepsiCo Foundation today announced it will provide $2 million in grants to help communities in Mexico City, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean impacted by natural disasters over the past week. These grants are:
- $1,000,000 to the American Red Cross for recovery from the earthquake in Mexico City and for relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean after Hurricane Maria.
- $1,000,000 to the Pan American Development Foundation to rebuild greater disaster-resilient communities in the Mexico City area and Puerto Rico.
"PepsiCo is committed to supporting our communities in a time of need. Over the past week, we've offered that support once more, working closely with relief organizations in Mexico, the Caribbean and the United States to help communities devastated by recent natural disasters," said Indra K. Nooyi, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo. "We stand with the people of Mexico City, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean as they begin the work of recovering and rebuilding."
"The PepsiCo Foundation's support for Red Cross disaster relief efforts over the past month has been truly extraordinary. The PepsiCo Foundation was among the first to step forward with support in response to Hurricane Harvey. Then Hurricane Irma and the most recent Mexico earthquake. Now the Foundation is once again stepping forward in support of Hurricane Maria and the devastating Mexico City earthquake," said Don Herring, Chief Development Officer, American Red Cross. "We know that PepsiCo employees and their family members have been directly impacted by these events, so to step forward in such a remarkable and meaningful way at a time when the company is taking care of its own is truly extraordinary. Our gratitude cannot be expressed in words."
"Our closest friends and neighbors in the Caribbean and Mexico are confronting some of the most tragic natural disasters in the history of our hemisphere. We must all respond to support their efforts to rebuild more resilient communities after such widespread destruction and suffering," said John Sanbrailo, Executive Director, Pan American Development Foundation.
Together with these contributions, PepsiCo and The PepsiCo Foundation have contributed more than $6.5 million for disaster relief over the past month.
In addition during the preceding month, PepsiCo has provided essential products to people in impacted communities. PepsiCo Mexico and its bottler partner Gepp have donated more than 7,000 liters of water to the Mexico City community. Previously, they donated 31 tons of products from its food portfolio and more than 12,000 liters of waters to communities affected by the earthquake in Southern Mexico. In the U.S., the company has donated more than 107,500 cases of Aquafina purified drinking water, Propel, Gatorade and Tropicana, as well as four dozen pallets of Frito-Lay products. Together with its bottler partner, Cerveceria Nacional Dominicana, PepsiCo also provided 300,000 liters of water to the Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, Tortola and St. Maarten.
