NEW YORK, Nov. 3, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bob Woodruff Foundation is pleased to announce that The Paul E. Singer Foundation will serve as title sponsor of its 4th Annual Stand Up for Heroes event in New York City on Wednesday, November 3 at the Beacon Theater in New York City.
Part of the Bob Woodruff Foundation's nationally recognized public education movement, Stand Up for Heroes brings together leaders from business, entertainment and philanthropy to raise funds to help injured service members and their families as they return to their communities.. The event will be hosted by Jon Stewart and will feature Jerry Seinfeld, Tony Bennett, Bill Burr, 4Troops and music by the Max Weinberg Band. A special performance will also be given by Bruce Springsteen. Over 3,000 guests are expected to attend. The benefit will be transmitted to U.S. military troops on bases in Afghanistan and Iraq and injured service members at Water Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
The Paul E. Singer Foundation is managed by Paul Singer, founder of Elliott Associates, L.P., a New York-based global trading partnership. Mr. Singer's foundation supports philanthropic projects in a range of areas, including human rights in the developing world, medical research, marriage equality, and military veterans' support programs. He is also Chairman of the Manhattan Institute, a public policy research organization, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Harvard Medical School.
"Paul Singer understands the incredible service our brave men and women in uniform are providing," said Bob Woodrufff, cofounder of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. "We are delighted that The Paul E. Singer Foundation has taken a leadership role on their behalf," he said.
"Service members and their families — especially those with hidden and physical injuries of war — can face mounting challenges. By ensuring they have successful futures, we honor the sacrifices they have made," added Rene Bardorf, Executive Director, Bob Woodruff Foundation.
Since its founding, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has invested over $6 million, reaching more than 500,000 service members, support personnel, veterans and their families nationwide. Funds raised at Stand-Up for Heroes will be quickly deployed to programs that connect injured troops to the help they need — from physical rehabilitation and counseling, to education, employment and financial assistance, to help with larger issues like homelessness and suicide.
