The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids Hosts Panel Discussion: The Role of Corporations in Building the Next Generation of Healthy Players, Leaders and Citizens
~ Leading industry executives will discuss how their companies invest in high school sports and help shape youth through athletics
NEW YORK, May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids will host a special panel discussion on Thursday, May 29th in New York City to explore the role of companies and sports organizations in supporting high school athletics. At the event, leading industry executives will discuss how their corporations invest in high school sports and help shape youth through athletics.
The panel includes Bob Hurley, Sr., head basketball coach at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, NJ, who has amassed more than 25 state championships; Mike Quick, host of MSG Varsity; David James, Sr. Director, RBI Program at Major League Baseball; and Sujean Lee, VP of Philanthropy and Corporate Affairs at Chobani. The conversation will be moderated by Pimm Fox, Host of "Taking Stock with Pimm Fox" on Bloomberg TV.
"High school is a critical time for youth development. It's a make-or-break transitional period, and participation in athletics often helps prepare teens for adulthood," said Hurley. "Kids see messages from corporations every day, so it is worth exploring the positive impact – and potential responsibility – that corporations have to shape today's youth in positive ways."
Through its collaboration with Major League Baseball on its Play Healthy campaign and other initiatives, the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids acknowledges the positive influence sports can play in teens' lives.
"At the Partnership, we know that participation in student athletics can lead to positive lifestyle decisions down the line, and that encouraging good sportsmanship and healthy play can go a long way toward priming teens to become tomorrow's adult leaders," said Steve Pasierb, President and CEO of the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids. "Together with the panel, we will explore the positive roles corporations can have in aiding healthy development of today's teens through their investment in athletic programs."
The moderated discussion will take place at 8:00 a.m. at Bloomberg LP's offices in New York City. To learn more about the event, contact April Brown at [email protected] or 212-973-3555.
