The Orangutan Project Selects Orange Orchard as U.S. Agency of Record
Nonprofit working to save the critically endangered species partners with animal friendly and environmentally conscious PR agency to raise awareness of its mission in the United States
PERTH, Australia, Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Orangutan Project, a nonprofit acclaimed for its work protecting the Critically Endangered species from extinction, has selected Orange Orchard, a public relations agency specializing in environmentally conscious brands, to promote awareness of the organization in the United States.
Founded by world-renowned orangutan expert Leif Cocks in 1998, the organization raises funds to:
- Lease and protect land concessions for orangutan forest habitats in Borneo and Sumatra and patrol that land to prevent illegal logging and poaching.
- Rescue, rehabilitate and release infant and displaced orangutans.
- Educate and empower local villagers and indigenous people by teaching them the value of conservation and eco-friendly farming methods.
"We chose Orange Orchard as our U.S. partner because of their experience and passion for these precious beings," said Cocks, president of The Orangutan Project and author of Orangutans: My Cousins, My Friends. "They're clearly committed to our mission to ensure the survival of both Sumatran and Bornean orangutan species in their natural habitat and to promote the welfare of all orangutans."
Orange Orchard is a division of Ripley PR, a global public relations agency using a blend of strategic business accounting and creative public relations branding to deliver measurable results. Orange Orchard works with environmentally conscious, animal-friendly, vegan and plant-based brands that aim to make the world a kinder place to live.
"The more I've learned about these gentle, loving, intelligent animals, the more I wanted to help them," said Heather Ripley, CEO of Orange Orchard. "The biggest threat they face comes from the loss of their tropical rain forest homes, which are disappearing at an alarming rate and being replaced predominantly by palm oil plantations. Palm oil is in so many things that we use, from cookies and snacks to soap and shampoo. It's important that we understand the true cost of palm oil, which in addition to the very real possibility of the extinction of orangutans, is also a major contributor to climate change."
With the equivalent of 300 football fields of rainforest destroyed every hour, The Orangutan Project hopes to ramp up efforts in the U.S. to raise money to support its programs and prevent the extinction of a species that shares 97 percent of our DNA and is considered by many to be the most-intelligent of the great apes.
