The Open Hearts Foundation Announces Angels of God Clothing Closet as the Grand Prize Winner of the Celebrating Open Hearts Contest

AKRON, Ohio, May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Open Hearts Foundation, a nonprofit charity that supports organizations committed to positively impacting lives in the areas of health, education, arts and sports, has announced the grand prize winner of the Celebrating Open Hearts Contest. The Angels of God Clothing Closet has been selected by popular vote from among four finalists to receive a $10,000 donation. The grand prize winner announcement is the culmination of a program that launched late last year encouraging participants to recognize organizations that align with the Foundation's mission of honoring those who have transformed adversity into an opportunity to make a true difference in the world.

After overcoming several personal tragedies, Katelyn Darrow and her family started the Angels of God Clothing Closet to pay-it-forward and show their appreciation for all of those who helped them.

A survivor of domestic violence, Katelyn Darrow, the founder of the Angels of God Clothing Closet, personifies the Foundation's mission through her courage and desire to help others. At the age of 12, she founded the Angels of God Clothing Closet, which provides clothing, food and other necessities free of charge to those in need in the New Jersey area. Working closely with local churches, agencies and shelters, the organization has provided services to over 26,000 families over a span of six years.

The Angels of God Clothing Closet was featured along with three other finalists (Butterfly Dreams, Hugz from Bugz and The Joseph Maley Foundation) in the voting competition following special recognition events hosted by Jane Seymour, co-founder of the Open Hearts Foundation. Participants were able to view videos sharing the unique stories of each organization to help them in selecting their favorite. While the contest is now complete, visitors can still view the videos on the Kay Jewelers YouTube channel.
