The New York City Department of Environmental Protection To Be Honored with Award for Best Ultraviolet Engineering Project
WASHINGTON, Sept. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Ultraviolet Association will honor the New York City Department of Environmental Protection with one of its highest awards – The UV Engineering Project of the Year Award - in recognition of the department's work on the Catskill-Delaware Ultraviolet Disinfection Facility. The award will be presented at IUVA's World Congress in Las Vegas Sept. 25, 2013.
Sharing the award will be the engineering firms CDM Smith and Hazen and Sawyer, the design engineer on the project under a joint venture. The joint venture of Malcolm Pirnie/Arcadis and CH2M HILL provided construction management services.
The award is given in recognition of an exemplary field application of ultraviolet technology, and for innovation, excellence and impact on society.
"Every two years, the leaders of the ultraviolet industry come together to discuss the latest developments in the technology and to honor the best from among their ranks. This award to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection is one of IUVA's highest awards," says Deb Martinez, executive director of IUVA.
New York's Catskill-Delaware Ultraviolet Disinfection facility delivers over 2 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water daily, and as such is by far the world's largest ultraviolet disinfection facility in the world.
IUVA President-Elect, Professor Karl Linden, himself a New York City native, praised the project as "a historical milestone to ensure safe drinking water in the City for generations to come. The NYC DEP leadership and Bureau of Water Supply Deputy Commissioner Paul Rush should be praised for their foresight and vision in making New York City a showcase for sustainable drinking water technology."
IUVA's World Congress is being held Sept. 22-26 in conjunction with the International Ozone Association. It will be at the Mirage Hotel. For more information, visit www.iuva.org.
Other awards presented at the World Congress will include Lifetime Achievement, Volunteer Recognition, Best Publications, Ultraviolet Product Innovation; and Green UV Innovations.
