P90X Creator Tony Horton and WJLA-ABC 7 Anchor Cynne Simpson Join Forces to Host D.C.'s Finest 5K
WASHINGTON, May 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- It's time to lace up your shoes and join Washington-area media, celebrities, elite runners and weekend walkers at the NPC's 15th Annual BEAT THE DEADLINE 5K on June 9! This annual fundraiser benefits the ongoing work of the National Press Club Journalism Institute, which is committed to helping working journalists improve their skills through ongoing training and programming of future journalists through scholarships that promote diversity within the profession.

The NPC is proud to have celebrity exercise trainer Tony Horton, creator of the P90X extreme fitness program, as this year's honorary Race Marshal. Horton will lead an audience in a workout session at the National Press Club on Thursday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m., and pre-race warm-up for attendants on race day. Joining Tony this year as Co-Marshal is Cynne Simpson, Emmy Award and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning anchor for ABC7/WJLA-TV.
The schedule of events includes:
Thursday, June 7, 6:30 p.m.: Tony Horton workout
Friday, June 8, 12 to 7 p.m.: Packet pick-up and registration, National Press Club
Saturday, June 9 – Race Day – 6:15 to 7:15 a.m.: On-site Registration (Corner of 14th and F Street, NW); 7:30 a.m.: Race Begins
Immediately following the race, all runners are invited to the National Press Club Ballroom for the NPC Health & Fitness Fair, post-race pancake breakfast and prizes/awards ceremony.
