LORTON, Va., Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Military Spouse Network (NMSN), the premiere organization supporting the professional and personal growth of the nation's military spouses, will host its NMSN Capital Military Spouse Career Summit presented by USAA in Springfield, VA, October 12-13 and feature a slate of nationally-recognized speakers including Nancy Belmont, CEO of Vessence Corp. and Brooke Arnold Robinson, former Military White House Social Aide for President Obama. The upcoming two-day event, held at the Springfield Hilton in Springfield, VA., will focus on a wide range of topics important to military spouses, from active duty to civilian life, as well as the companies and organizations looking to reach military spouses.
The Career Summit offers a jam-packed career-building and personal development program that concentrates on entrepreneurship and creating connections the first day and is followed by an evening program that includes service members. Day 2 is squarely focused on building a career spouse tool kit. More information and registration details for the 2018 Military Spouse Career Summits can be found here. Organizations interested in exploring sponsorship opportunities for the program should visit the NMSN Summit website as well.
"We are so excited and proud to again host the Capital Military Spouse Career Summit in the metropolitan DC area attracting attendees from all over the country," said Sue Hoppin, founder and president of NMSN. "Our content-rich program will deliver success-based career guidance to attendees which will help them put their career plans into action as well as introduce business leaders to a talent pool of exceptional military spouse professionals. The program also provides an opportunity for attendees to take a break from their normal lives to focus on their career goals and ambitions, connect with one another on a personal level in a real and inspiring manner and leave renewed."
"Programs such as the Military Spouse Career Summits provide opportunities for military spouses to grow their networks, resources and personal brand," said Maggie Hahn, military advocacy director at USAA and military spouse. "Too often, the career challenges military spouses face are overshadowed by the other challenges of military life."
The NMSN Capital Military Spouse Career Summit presented by USAA is the second such career and entrepreneurial program presented by NMSN this year. For the first time, NMSN presented two career conferences in one year, holding its first-ever two-day event in Colorado Springs, CO., in June.
This year's program in the Capital district will showcase a line-up of extraordinary speakers led by Nancy Belmont, who gained national recognition with the launch of The Courage Wall. She is a leader of #WeLiveBig, a creative incubator for community-building initiatives and focuses on promoting human flourishing, continually inspiring authenticity and increasing individual and collective consciousness for a more unified, vibrant world.
The upcoming program also will feature Brooke Arnold Robinson, an Air Force veteran and military spouse who continued her service to the country with a host of high-level appointments, including as a Military White House Social Aide for President Obama and the first family, as the Special Assistant to the 19th Air Force Chief of Staff and his spouse, General and Mrs. Norton Schwartz, and more. In recognition of Robinson's outstanding work, she has received 14 service medals, including Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the NATO Medal.
In addition, Carol Fishman Cohen will be honored with the prestigious 2018 NMSN Impact Award at the Career Summit for her significant contributions to military spouse employment. Through her work as Chair and co-founder of iRelaunch and her book, Back on the Career Track, Fishman Cohen has eased the transition for military spouse professionals worldwide looking to re-enter the workforce. As part of the award, NMSN will make a donation to Dress for Success in her name.
The NMSN Summits provide career-focused military spouses with an opportunity to develop their professional and life skills and grow connections with like-minded spouses in a dynamic, hands-on environment that connects them with business leaders from around the country, entrepreneurs and nationally-recognized industry experts who will discuss and examine a wide range of hot-button issues relevant to military spouses. The two-day events are designed to educate, mentor and inspire military spouses in all stages of military life and in their careers – from active duty to transitioning to civilian life. In addition, the events are an important way for companies and educational institutions to connect directly with the military spouse community.
