The NHCLC exists to unify, serve and represent the Hispanic Evangelical Community with the divine (vertical) and human (horizontal) elements of the Christian message, which includes an Education Directive that advocates for the NHCLC's 40,118 member churches representing millions in the Hispanic community all while advancing the Lamb's agenda.
Dr. Keith Newman, Executive Vice President, Indiana Wesleyan University, said, "Indiana Wesleyan University celebrates the work of the NHCLC and is proud to be the senior sponsor of their Education Directive. We share a commitment to the transformation of our society for Christ and believe this strategic partnership is an investment in our vision to create world changers."
Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), an evangelical Christian comprehensive university, is committed to liberal arts and professional education. U.S. News & World Report ranks Indiana Wesleyan University as "one of the best Master's universities in the Midwest."
The University's total enrollment, which now exceeds 15,000 students, makes IWU the largest private university in Indiana and the largest member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. IWU offers classes on its main campus in Marion, Indiana, onsite in its 17 education centers located throughout Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, and online.
Over 3,000 students live and learn in state-of-the-art residence halls and academic facilities on IWU's main campus. More than 80 majors are offered, including Art, Nursing, Business and Theology and Ministry. Nearly 12,000 students study in adult and graduate programs.
Indiana Wesleyan University's mission is to change the world by developing students in character, scholarship and leadership. To the point of IWU's mission, a formal partnership with the NHCLC ensued in 2010 in order to enhance their ability to serve Hispanic students worldwide. Two examples of this commitment include a $15,000 scholarship for National Hispanic Recognition Program participants and a Spanish Master of Divinity degree offered through Wesley Seminary at IWU.
IWU hosted the 2012 NHCLC Hispanic Alliance Education Summit, which is held annually to highlight the academic challenges faced by Latinos and education providers with a specific focus on reducing the national Hispanic dropout rate. Challenges, strategies, and solutions are presented to attendees, including Pastors, church leaders, academic administrators, and educators.
Dr. Gus Reyes, Director of Hispanic Education Initiative/Affinity Ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Director of the NHCLC Education Directive, said, "As the Education Directive leader for the NHCLC, I am pleased to affirm our continuing relationship with Indiana Wesleyan University. Thanks to God for its visionary leaders. We look forward to strategic collaborative efforts with Indiana Wesleyan University in the years to come."
