The National Headache Foundation Announces the Recipient of the 2015 Seymour Diamond, M.D. Lectureship
Lectureship is awarded to the author of the most significant paper in headache medicine published in the last year
CHICAGO, Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Headache Foundation is pleased to announce that Lars Bendtsen, M.D., Ph.D., Dr. Med.Sci. is the recipient of the 2015 Seymour Diamond, M.D. Lectureship. Doctor Bendtsen is Associate Professor at the Department of Neurology and Danish Headache Center, Glostrup Hospital, University of Copenhagen. He received his Ph.D. and Dr.Med.Sci. degrees at the University of Copenhagen. He has actively been involved in headache research since 1991 and has authored over 130 papers and book chapters on headache topics. Dr. Bendtsen is the recipient of the 1997 GlaxoWellcome Research Prize, 2000 Danish Headache Society Prize for scientific achievements, and 2001 Danish Neurological Society's Roche Prize for scientific achievements in neurology. He is past President of the Danish Headache Society. Currently, Doctor Bendtsen is co-director of The Danish Headache Centre. His main research interest includes clinical aspects and treatment of migraine and headache in general and more specifically the pathophysiology and management of tension-type headache, medication overuse headache and trigeminal neuralgia.
The lectureship was established in 2005 to honor the Executive Chairman and Founder of the National Headache Foundation – Seymour Diamond, M.D. The award recognizes the most significant paper in headache medicine which was published during the past year.
Doctor Bendtsen's lecture, "Disability, Anxiety, and Depression Associated With Medication-Overuse Headache Can Be Considerably Reduced by Detoxification and Prophylactic Treatment," is based on the article, "Disability, Anxiety, and Depression Associated With Medication-Overuse Headache Can Be Considerably Reduced by Detoxification and Prophylactic Treatment. Results from a Multicentre, Multinational Study (COMOESTAS Project)," which appeared in the journal, Cephalalgia 2014; 34:426-433. His coauthors were: SB Munksgaard, C Tassorelli, G Nappi, Z Katsarava, M Lainez, JA Leston, R Fadic, S Spadafora, A Stoppini, R Jensen, and the COMOESTAS Consortium.
The lecture will be presented on Sunday, February 15, 2015, 7:30 a.m., at the Balboa Bay Resort, Newport Beach, California during the course, The 28th Annual Practicing Physician's Approach to the Difficult Headache Patient, which is directed by the Diamond Headache Clinic Research and Educational Foundation, of Chicago.
