The Moth Announces Its 2018 Lineup
Planned Shows Including Louisville, Nashville and Phoenix StorySLAM Debuts; Premiere Mainstages at Sundance Film Festival and in Cincinnati, Flint, Montgomery, Sioux Falls, and Albuquerque; and a First-Time Global Community Showcase in Nairobi, Kenya

NEW YORK, Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Beloved storytelling nonprofit The Moth -- the force behind the popular series, The Moth Radio Hour, heard on over 450 public radio stations nationwide, and The Moth podcast, which is downloaded 46 million times a year -- today announced its jam-packed lineup for 2018. The Moth will present close to 600 shows on stages in the U.S. and abroad throughout the year, all featuring true personal stories told live, without notes.
"Last year—our 20th anniversary—was incredible: celebratory, challenging, exciting, and invigorating. Close to 6,000 stories will be told from The Moth stages in 2018; show schedule highlights include:
- 503 StorySLAMs, taking place in 29 cities around the world including inaugural SLAMs in Nashville, TN, and Phoenix, AZ
- 44 Mainstages, including premieres in Cincinnati, OH and Flint, MI; Montgomery, AL and Whitesburg, KY (supported by grants from EFA); and in Albuquerque, NM and Sioux Falls, SD (supported by funds from the NEA)
- 41 GrandSLAMs, including the inaugural GrandSLAM in Atlanta, GA
- 18 Education StorySLAMs throughout the year, with citywide High School GrandSLAMs in the summer and winter. In addition, the annual Moth Teacher Institute will be held in June, and a special Moth Education keynote highlighting true stories from teachers will open the SXSW EDU in March
- 5 Community showcases including the first-ever Moth show in Nairobi, Kenya —presented in partnership with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation— and those created in collaboration with new partners such as Upstream Arts, HealthGap, and Urban Resource Institute
- 1 Moth Ball—the annual fundraiser for the nonprofit—slated for June 5th
Also on tap for 2018: The Moth's beloved podcast celebrates its 10th year and crosses the 46 million listener threshold. Special bonus episodes will be presented on Fridays throughout the year. Themes and specific stories to be announced.
