The Most Powerful Vote in Idaho: 50+ Voters By the Numbers
AARP Finds Most Older Idahoans are "Independents" & 83% Vote in Nearly Every Election – Assoc. to Launch Statewide Voter Ed Efforts
BOISE, Idaho, April 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- They are the most powerful voting population in the nation and it's little wonder why, with 70% of the 92 million people age 50 and older casting a ballot in the 2008 elections, compared to just 52% of those under 50.
AARP found the age group isn't missing a step in Idaho. This election year, roughly 56% of all registered voters in Idaho will be 50 plus and AARP is launching a statewide voter education effort to help them get the facts on key issues before voting. As part of the efforts, AARP will ask its Idaho members which issues matter most to them, and include the candidates' positions on the issues in AARP voter guides for every Congressional, statewide and state legislative race.
50+ voters in Idaho:
- Over half (56%) of all Idaho voters will be 50 or older plus this year.
- In 2008, 93% of registered voters 50 plus hit the polls in Idaho, nearly 10% more than registered voters under 50.
- 77% of Idahoans 65 and older are registered to vote, and of those, 91% voted in 2008.
- 90% of all AARP members are registered voters.
In Idaho, half of the 65 plus population are AARP members, with the overwhelming majority voting in every election, according to a recent AARP survey.
