PLYMOUTH, Minn., March 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS) has been recognized in the Corporate Responsibility Magazine 12th annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List, known as the world's top corporate responsibility ranking based on publicly available information. This is the second year in a row that Mosaic has been recognized on this list.
Mosaic received its 67th global ranking due in part to its conservation and environmental stewardship as well as its financial and governance transparency. Mosaic's accomplishments include recycling 95-percent of all water used in its Phosphates business and 82-percent in Potash, achieving a 66-percent reduction in scope-two green house gas emissions over conventional sourcing of electricity due to cogeneration at its North American facilities and its purchase of power from hydroelectric sources in Brazil. Mosaic was also noted for its philanthropic projects, including donations of product, agronomic expertise and logistics to its Village Projects in Guatemala, India and seven African countries.
"Mosaic is committed to providing exceptional service to our customers and the communities where we do business, and Mosaic's inclusion on this list recognizes this company-wide commitment," said Linda Thrasher, Mosaic Vice President of Public Affairs.
"We take this recognition from Corporate Responsibility Magazine as a challenge to raise the bar as we continue operating as a responsible corporate leader," added Chris Lambe, Director of Social Responsibility.
Mosaic's listing is based on more than 330 data points in seven categories, including: environment, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, financial performance and governance. The 100 Best Corporate Citizens List's open and transparent methodology is governed by a Methodology Committee of the Corporate Responsibility Officers Association (CROA).
According to Elliot Clark, CEO of SharedXpertise Media, which publishes CR Magazine and produces the Commit!Forum, "This is the 12th annual CR Magazine 100 Best Corporate Citizens List and we are gratified to see that once again the overall average of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens in the Russell 1000 improved year over year from 2010. This demonstrates the continuing commitment on the part of these companies to better transparency, accountability and citizenship practices. Our methodology, which is completely disclosed in all of our documents, aggressively ranks the citizenship performance of these top companies."
