TOKYO, Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- After holding a general vote on a new JAS mark for special standards, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has chosen the following design.
Background
JAS marks are broadly divided into two categories: the widely known, so-called round JAS marks for products such as soy sauce and timber, and marks for special standards for products such as free-range local chicken and cured ham.
In order to introduce a new unified JAS mark for special standards that appeals to both the Japanese and the international markets, the MAFF held a general vote from September 4 to September 30. The following design obtained the most votes and was elected as the new JAS mark for special standards.
The MAFF would like to thank everyone for the large number of participations.
Reason for new design
To convey the idea of reliable Japanese quality at a glance both in Japan and abroad, the MAFF combined a simple design of Japanese symbol- Mt Fuji and the outline of the sun in Japan's national flag.
The contents of each individual standard are written at the base of Mt Fuji.
