The Michigan Military Technical and Historical Museum to Host WWII Brick Paver Preview Party
ROYAL OAK, Mich., March 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Michigan's official World War II Legacy Memorial is holding an event to display brick pavers from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 at The Michigan Military Technical and Historical Museum in Eastpointe.
The exhibit will feature almost 300 bricks purchased by supporters of the memorial in Royal Oak and are engraved in memory of loved ones. A Walk of Honor pathway will be built with the engraved pavers near the entrance of the memorial. The Eastpointe museum has offered to serve as a temporary home for the brick pavers until they can be installed.
"We've been searching for a way to thank our donors and recognize those whose memories are etched into the bricks," said Chris Zimmel of Clawson, a legacy project volunteer. "Michigan has a unique story to share, and The Michigan Military Technical and Historical Museum is giving us that opportunity to do so while the memorial is still underway."
With a unanimous vote in February, the memorial was recognized by both the House and Senate as the state's official tribute to WWII. Funding for the memorial - whose budget is an estimated $3 million - is being made possible through donations, fundraising, all levels of personal and corporate sponsorships, grants and sales of the brick pavers. The bricks cost $100, $200 or $500, depending on size, and can be purchased by emailing [email protected].
The event will be an unveiling of these important bricks and admission is free for WWII veterans. Terrence O'Rourke, a 36-year Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) member will present a $3,500 Quality of Life Grant on behalf of the MDRT. For ticket prices, please visit http://mimths.org. Light refreshments will be served throughout the party.
