The Meemic Foundation Announces Education Grant Recipients

DETROIT, Sept. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Meemic Foundation, a non-profit organization created by Michigan-based Meemic Insurance Company, has been offering financial assistance in the form of grants to schools and educators for many years. The Foundation has helped some of the most passionate teachers around the world inspire students through its financial support of education initiatives. Today, The Meemic Foundation announced that 18 schools across the state have received grants for the 2014-2015 school year, totaling $14,205.83.

"The goal of Meemic Foundation grants is to provide the resources necessary for teachers to create a dynamic learning environment for students," said Pamela Harlin, Director of The Meemic Foundation.  "We are thrilled to be able to offer financial support and recognition for outstanding Michigan educators and help them further their efforts to provide students with a dynamic education experience."   

The grant process is simple.  Educators need only to visit the Foundation website and complete the easy online grant application, outlining their request for a grant.  Grant applications are evaluated based on an assortment of criteria that are provided on The Meemic Foundation website. 

Any employee of a Michigan public, private, charter or parochial school, from pre-school to post-secondary, may apply for a Meemic Foundation grant.  Educators from the same school are welcome to submit proposals for different grant requests. 

The support offered from The Meemic Foundation allows teachers to invest in the future of their students and provide opportunities that may not be possible due to funding concerns. Oxford Virtual Academy in Oxford will use its $1,000 grant to create a cozy corner to support students who suffer from anxiety disorders and struggle in a classroom setting.  Eisenhower Elementary in Flint received $937 for the implementation of an afterschool reading club for 4^th-6^th grade students to spark imagination and build literacy skills.  Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie will use the $1,000 grant it received to help generate interest in STEM through forensic science with the introduction of the Who Dunnit? Program in elementary schools in the Sault Ste. Marie Public School District.

The Meemic Foundation accepts grant applications year-round.  The Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the 3^rd quarter grant round through September 30^th.  To submit an application, educators can simply visit www.MeemicFoundation.com and complete an online form outlining their request.
