The teams of cheerleaders and dancers are comprised of the All Americans who are chosen at Varsity camps all across the country. The All Americans chosen to march in the parade are comprised of the top 12% of the 325,000 campers that Varsity trains in cheer and dance fundamentals. Last year, Varsity sent a group of 1500 cheerleaders, dancers and guests to London for the prestigious three-hour parade.
The All Americans are chosen from camps run by the Universal Cheerleaders Association, National Cheerleaders Association, United Cheerleaders Association, Universal Dance Association and National Dance Association, whose camps are held in every state.
The relationship between the Lord Mayor and Varsity began in 1988 when Varsity started selecting the best cheerleaders and dance teams from across the country to march in London's New Year's Day Parade. The Lord Mayor of the City of Westminster, Angela Harvey, is the first citizen of the city and is host to London's New Year's Day Parade and Festival, which attracts more than 500,000 people to the streets of Westminster.
"We are honored to host the Lord Mayor at our headquarters, and to pay tribute to our positive relationship," says Mike Fultz, Vice President, Varsity International Special Events. "For some of our All Americans, the trip to the London New Year's Day Parade is a highlight of their high school careers, and for many it's their first international trip. We know that they will treasure the experience forever."
