The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "A Tribute to Jackie" Photo Collection Part of Auction Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of President Kennedy's Assassination
Proceeds of Sale of Jacques Lowe Photographs of Former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to Benefit LLS Mission
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A striking collection of framed photographs owned by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, both alone and accompanied by President John Kennedy, and other family members, is part of a major auction taking place in Amesbury, Mass., to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy.
The Legends Auction – President John F. Kennedy and His Contemporaries – Documents, Photography, Letters and Gifts will take place at McInniss Auction House beginning on Friday, November 22, 2013, which is the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination in Dallas.
The collection of 55 photographs was taken by Jacques Lowe, the former first family's personal photographer. LLS acquired the collection from Lowe several years after the former First Lady's death from non-Hodgkin lymphoma in May 1994. The proceeds from the sale of the photographs in the collection will benefit LLS's quest to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
"It is a fitting legacy for LLS to offer these photographs on the solemn occasion of the 50th anniversary," said LLS chief marketing officer Lisa Stockmon. "In light of the former First Lady's death as a result of a blood cancer, and with heightened attention focused once again on the Kennedy legacy, it is our hope that this collection will help raise awareness of how LLS is advancing new therapies for patients with blood cancer, and raise funds that can be invested in cutting-edge research to find cures and better treatments."
