The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Sorry to Learn of Maryland Governor's Lymphoma Diagnosis
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., June 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) was sorry to learn this afternoon that Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
His diagnosis is B-cell NHL, which is a diverse group of blood cancers that develop in the lymphatic system. While it is important to understand your subtype when diagnosed with lymphoma, typically treatment for B-cell lymphomas involves multiple rounds of combination chemotherapy over a period of several months. Many patients respond very well to these treatments and can enjoy enduring remissions. Some subtypes are more responsive to standard therapy than others.
Approximately 70,000 Americans are diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma each year, and there are currently more than 761,000 people either living with or in remission from the disease.
"Our thoughts are with Mr. Hogan and his family as he begins to undergo his treatments," said LLS President and CEO Louis J. DeGennaro. "LLS wants the governor and his family to know that we are available for information and support throughout the entire process, during and post-treatment."
