The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Northern California Light The Night Walk Campaign to Kick Off with San Francisco Walk at AT&T Park
Thousands to Walk to Raise Funds for Blood Cancer Research
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Northern California Chapter will be kicking off its 2014 Light The Night® Walk campaign with the San Francisco Walk on September 23, 2014 at 5 p.m. PT at AT&T Park. The Light The Night Walk is a powerful and unique fundraising campaign from LLS, which brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors and loved ones lost to the disease. The event also shines a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
In addition to San Francisco, the Light The Night campaign will host walks in the following communities:
Napa Valley Walk – September 27, 2014
Veteran's Memorial Park, Napa, Calif.
North Bay Walk – October 11, 2014
Old Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa, Calif.
San Jose Walk – October 18, 2014
Discovery Meadow, San Jose, Calif.
East Bay Walk – October 25, 2014
Civic Park, Walnut Creek, Calif.
Peninsula Walk – November 1, 2014
City Hall Plaza, Palo Alto, Calif.
Sacramento Walk – November 1, 2014
Raley Field, West Sacramento, Calif.
The Light The Night Walk is a family-friendly, non-competitive two-mile walk route and is accessible to all fitness levels. There is no minimum for fundraising, but participants who raise $100 or more will become a Champion for Cures and will receive a t-shirt, dinner and an illuminated lantern on the night of the walk. All walkers who receive an illuminated lantern will show how their lives have been affected by blood cancer – white if they're a survivor, red if they're a supporter and gold if they're walking in memory of a loved one. All cancer survivors in attendance at all Light The Night Walks are honored guests and will receive these items regardless of their fundraising level.
The San Francisco Light The Night Walk will kick off with food and festivities at 5 p.m. at AT&T Park, Lot A and the walk will start at 7 p.m. The San Francisco Fire Department Fireboat will blow their water cannons from McCovey Cove to announce the start of the walk and all participants will have a chance to view themselves and their teammates on the Jumbotron as they cross home plate inside AT&T Park.
Additional Light The Night Walk event details include music, dinner for the Champions for Cures from Lucky Strike, a team photo area, kid-friendly activities including face painting, a Reflections of Life tent featuring the stories of Honored and Remembered Heroes, a Survivor Lounge, and more. LLS will also be recognizing the San Francisco Honored Hero, Celia Hood, a spunky and courageous five-year-old girl who is battling B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.
