The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Announces the 2015 Bay Area Man & Woman of the Year
UCSF Blood Cancer Medical Doctor and VITAS Healthcare Executive Win Prestigious Title
SAN FRANCISCO, June 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Greater Bay Area Chapter announced Dr. Babis Andreadis and Lisa Cooper as the 2015 Man & Woman of the Year, respectively, at the 25th Anniversary Grand Finale Celebration presented by Google Express, which took place at The Fairmont San Francisco Hotel on June 6, 2015. As this year's winners, Dr. Andreadis and Cooper raised the most funds out of the 14 candidates vying for this year's title. As a group, this year's class of candidates raised more than $804,000 to benefit blood cancer research.
More than 500 guests attended the 25th Anniversary Grand Finale Celebration to honor the candidates and celebrate the revealing of the 2015 Bay Area Man & Woman of the Year winners. Both of this year's winners have strong connections to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission. Dr. Babis Andreadis specializes in blood cancers as an Associate Professor of Hematology at the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Lisa Cooper serves as the Senior General Manager in the Bay Area for VITAS Healthcare, the nation's leading provider of end-of-life care. Since both winners raised more than $50,000, they will each have the opportunity to link with a grant in a blood cancer research portfolio of their choosing.
Along with the candidates, the 2015 Bay Area Boy & Girl of the Year Jack R. and Celia H., respectively, who are both local blood cancer patients, were honored guests at the Grand Finale Celebration. Other notable guests in attendance included the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Dr. Louis J. DeGennaro, Emmy award-winning host of KCBS' Foodie Chap Liam Mayclem, the Honorable Consul General of Greece Dimitrios Xenitellis and the Director of Commerce Marketing of Google Express Sherice Torres.
The Man & Woman of the Year campaign is an annual 10-week fundraising competition between leaders united by one goal, to use their leadership skills and strong ties to their communities to raise funds to help blood cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives. The candidates compete in honor of the Boy & Girl of the Year to raise the most funds for blood cancer research. Every dollar counts as one vote and the titles are awarded to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of the campaign.
