The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Expands Information Resource Center Hours
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is pleased to announce expanded hours for its Information Resource Center (IRC), a toll-free call center staffed with master's level healthcare professionals equipped with the latest information on all of the blood cancers.
Beginning today the hours of service will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. The IRC can be reached at (800) 955-4572. The call center immediately can assist callers in three languages – English, Spanish and French with translations available in more than 140 languages.
"Increasing our service hours is an important part of our strategic plan to expand our mission offerings, including providing free information, education and support services to patients and their families, and ensuring patients have access to quality, affordable, coordinated care," said Scott Riccio, LLS senior vice president of patient access.
A blood cancer diagnosis can be an overwhelming experience, compounded by the complexity and diversity of treatment options and financial considerations. LLS is a recognized leader in providing highly specialized information to patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options and survivorship issues. LLS's IRC is unique among health organization call centers because of the depth of individualized attention offered.
IRC specialists fully assess each individual's needs and tailor their responses to provide the most appropriate services. Information specialists are also skilled in helping people search for appropriate clinical trials, determining which trials they may be eligible for, and developing a list of questions to ask their doctors or the trial team.
Since its inception in 1997, the IRC has touched more than 1 million callers. Last year alone, IRC specialists fielded more than 62,000 inquiries and performed more than 6,000 clinical trial searches using the IRC's TrialCheck tool.
