The Latino Coalition: Net Neutrality Regulations will Prevent Job Growth & Discourage Innovation and Investment
WASHINGTON, Nov. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Latino Coalition (TLC), one of the largest membership and advocacy organizations for Latino-owned small and mid-sized businesses, made the following statement after President Obama urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to impose new federal "net neutrality" regulations:
"The Latino Coalition strongly opposes any efforts to undermine free and open Internet with the new net neutrality regulations," said Hector Barreto, Chairman of TLC and former U.S. Small Business Administrator. "We cannot ignore that an open Internet benefits all sectors of the U.S. economy. It provides competition with innovation, investment and a robust development of job growth. Enacting the 1930s Title II classification would not only give government unprecedented power over the Internet; it would add to the economic uncertainty of the private sector, hurt consumers, discourage innovation and hinder investment in this critical technology. TLC urges the FCC to reject these far-reaching regulations and advocate for principles that will guide industry practices, protect consumers and allow the Internet to continue flourishing."
