The Land Report Honors Waggoner Ranch Sale As Deal of the Century
Half-million-acre Texas landmark changes hands for the first time in history.
DALLAS, July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The sale of the W.T. Waggoner Estate Ranch to Kroenke Ranches has been recognized by the editors of the Magazine of the American Landowner as the Deal of the Century.
"The heirs of Dan and Tom Waggoner have shepherded this matchless legacy for more than 160 years," said Editor Eric O'Keefe. "They couldn't have chosen a better steward going forward than Stan Kroenke and Kroenke Ranches."
Bernard Uechtritz and Sam Middleton represented the sellers. Joel Leadbetter of Hall and Hall represented Kroenke Ranches.
Other notable transactions honored included the 2015 Deal of the Year: the sale of South Dakota's Standing Butte Ranch to Ted Turner. Tom Metzger of Hall and Hall represented the sellers, the Houck family.
The 2015 Timberland Deal of the Year recognized the merger of the Weyerhaeuser Company and Plum Creek Timber Company, which created a 13-million-acre behemoth, the largest private landowner in the United States.
The 2015 Ranchland Deal of the Year featured the sale of Colorado's JE Canyon Ranch by Jerry Wenger to The Nature Conservancy, with Ken Mirr of Mirr Ranch Group and Corwin Brown representing the seller and Mirr the buyer.
The sale of prime farmland in California's Palo Verde Valley earned 2015 Agriculture Deal of the Year honors. John Osborne represented both the buyer and the seller.
The 2015 Conservation Deal of the Year featured the sale of Georgia's Greenwood Plantation by the Whitney family to Emily Vanderbilt Wade with Jon Kohler of Jon Kohler & Associates representing both the seller and the buyer.
