The Lancet Makes Research More Accessible for Healthcare Professionals With New App for iPad
LONDON, January 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The Lancet, the world's leading independent general medical journal, today announced its first app for iPad is now available on the App Store. The Lancet App is an innovative article-based navigation app that makes it easier for healthcare professionals (HCPs) to find the information they need quickly and efficiently from the convenience of their iPad.
"In this new mobile and tablet age, you have to think about how a doctor seeks and uses the information they need," explains Scott Virkler, SVP e-Products Global Medical Research, Elsevier Health Sciences. "iPad gave us the opportunity to rewrite the rules according to the needs of our readers and provide them a convenient solution. With this article-based navigation app, we've created an entirely new model that responds to our readers' need to get to the articles they want, when they want."
The app gives subscribers convenient access to the latest articles published in The Lancet, The Lancet Oncology, The Lancet Neurology and The Lancet Infectious Diseases. Articles are sent to users and categorized by topic for an easy, at-a-glance overview. Users can annotate articles, share them with colleagues and create alerts and bookmark favorites. They can also search the journal database from the app and download articles for immediate or future use, either on or offline.
The Lancet App is one of many apps Elsevier is developing for healthcare professionals. "We have an extensive, robust mobile app development program," added Virkler. "Healthcare professionals are on the leading edge of this exciting new publishing medium."
The Lancet App is available for free from the App Store on iPad or at http://www.itunes.com/appstore. Selected content is available for all viewers. Subscribers to The Lancent have access to all published content.
