The Kids In Need Foundation Launches SupplyAClassroom.org Program
The new program enables donors to select a specific classroom to fund with school supplies
MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), a national non-profit dedicated to providing free school supplies to students most in need, has launched SupplyAClassroom.org, a way for donors anywhere to make a donation to provide school supplies directly to classrooms. The new program, which focuses on KINF's core mission of providing essential school supplies to the classrooms of children most in need, empowers donors to give to a classroom that is meaningful to them.
"In this season of giving, SupplyAClassroom.org is an intuitive way for anyone to support kids and classrooms in need of school supplies," said Dave Smith, executive director of The Kids In Need Foundation. "No child should have to go to school without the notebooks, pencils and other supplies they need to succeed."
How it Works
Each summer, teachers from across the country can submit a personal statement and share how the classroom supplies will impact their students. KINF shares this information on SupplyAClassroom.org. Donors can search for a specific teacher, a city or state, school district and find classrooms in the community in need of support.
Donors can choose to fund all or a portion of the school supplies, called Classroom Supply Boxes. Once a classroom has been fully funded, each classroom will receive two large Classroom Supply Boxes filled with enough core school supplies to last for at least one semester. Pencils, pencil pouches, folders, notebooks, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, and pens are included in every box. Additional items are included based on grade level, such as crayons and markers for younger grades, and loose-leaf paper and colored pencils for older. The classrooms that receive these boxes are located in some of the most economically challenged communities in the U.S., where new school supplies are luxuries families often can't afford. Donors are notified once the shipment arrives to the classroom and receives updates on how the supplies are being used.
Founded in 1995, The Kids In Need Foundation has distributed $1 Billion in school supplies since the Foundation's inception. Various programs have allowed KINF to serve more students than ever before, including:
- KINF's Second Responder® program provides school supplies to students and teachers following natural disasters.
- KINF's School Ready Supplies program partners with select corporations and organizations nationwide to create and give pre-assembled backpacks full of school supplies to students in need nationwide.
- KINF's National Network of Resource Centers includes 40 locations across the country to help distribute much needed school supplies to kids who would otherwise go without. These organizations support challenged communities where 70% or more of the kids are on a federal nutrition program.
