WASHINGTON, May 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Keith Haring Foundation is proud to announce a $1,000,000 commitment to further the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF)'s work to end AIDS in children around the world.
Over the next four years, the Keith Haring Foundation will support EGPAF as they pursue the UNAIDS and PEPFAR-endorsed Start Free, Stay Free, AIDS Free framework, with the goal of ending AIDS in children, adolescents, and young women by 2020.
"We're pleased to announce this transformative partnership with the Keith Haring Foundation," said Chip Lyons, President and CEO of EGPAF. "It is because of the commitment from partners like the Keith Haring Foundation that EGPAF can continue our efforts to create an AIDS-free generation. This support will be instrumental in EGPAF's urgent work to help end the threat of AIDS to children worldwide."
"By supporting EGPAF, the Keith Haring Foundation continues its commitment to an organization that represents both mainstays of Keith Haring's charitable legacy – to assist marginalized youth and to expand HIV/AIDS prevention and care," said Julia Gruen, Executive Director of the Keith Haring Foundation. "EGPAF is the global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS, and we're honored to help them reach women, children, and families affected by HIV, providing them with the services and treatment they so desperately need."
This support will help EGPAF reach more families and communities across Africa who need its lifesaving programs to prevent, treat, and ultimately end HIV/AIDS. EGPAF thanks the Keith Haring Foundation for this important donation and looks forward to continuing to work together, with shared commitment and vision until no child has AIDS.
About the Keith Haring Foundation:
Established in 1989 by the late artist Keith Haring (1958-1990), the Keith Haring Foundation supports US-based non-profit organizations that provide educational opportunities to underserved youth as well as to organizations that engage in education, prevention and care related to AIDS and HIV. Haring additionally charged his Foundation with maintaining and protecting his artistic legacy. The Foundation maintains a large collection of his art, along with archives that facilitate historical research about the artist and the times and places in which he lived and worked. The Foundation supports arts and educational institutions by funding programs and publications that serve to contextualize and illuminate the artist's work and philosophy. During the last years of his life, Haring often enlisted his imagery to speak about his own illness and to generate activism and awareness about HIV and AIDS. To date, his Foundation has provided over $15 million in funding to charities meeting his mandate.
