The James M. Cox Foundation Announces $50,000 Gift to the Latin American Association
ATLANTA, March 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Enterprises announced today a $50,000 gift to the Latin American Association (LAA) from The James M. Cox Foundation. The gift will support the organization's Latino Family Self-Sufficiency Project.
"The gift from the James M. Cox Foundation will help us provide vital services to Atlanta's Hispanic community," said Latin American Association's Executive Director Jeffrey Tapia. "Through our educational programs and services, our goal is to ensure long-term success for individuals and families."
The LAA focuses on youth academic achievement, education and prevention and services to families with urgent needs. The LAA's Self-Sufficiency Project provides a continuum of supportive services to help Atlanta's most vulnerable Latino families and individuals navigate through the struggles of economic and other crises and place them on the road to stability and self-reliance. The project assists families with their emergency needs, including rent assistance, food, clothing and other support, and then works with them collaboratively to attain the skills, tools, and resources they need to achieve independence and avoid future crises.
"Empowering individuals and embracing diversity are two important initiatives for Cox to champion," said Jim Kennedy, chairman of Cox Enterprises. "The Latin American Association's Latino Family Self-Sufficiency Project is addressing both."
In Atlanta, Cox Enterprises sponsors LAA events throughout the year and supports the Hispanic community through its MundoHispanico newspaper. As Georgia's oldest and largest Spanish language newspaper, MundoHispanico delivers news that helps educate, enrich, and empower the lives of more than 195,000 weekly readers.
