The Invasion in Silicon Valley: VetsinTech Kicks-Off Annual Networking Conference for Military Veterans to Transition into Careers in Tech
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On January 13-14, VetsinTech, the only non-profit organization focused 100 percent on helping military veterans transition into meaningful careers in the tech industry, will launch their inaugural national conference: The Invasion in Silicon Valley. The event will connect veterans from across the country with top technology leaders for content and networking opportunities, providing sessions in technology education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Veterans are invited to attend the two-day event at Galvanize's San Francisco campus. The conference will feature panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities with Silicon Valley's industry leaders. The Invasion has a growing line-up of speakers from major tech companies, including:
- Craig Newmark, Founder, Craigslist
- David Kingsley, SVP Global HR Strategy, Salesforce
- Raj Shah, Managing Partner, DIUx
- Rick Howard, Chief Security Officer, Palo Alto Networks
- Loree Draude, Head of Ads Help and Education, Facebook
- Daniel Savage, Head of Veteran Affairs, LinkedIn
The event's programming benefits veterans pursuing various careers through the following three tracks:
- Tech Education – where veterans can find opportunities to learn the in-demand new skills of data science, cyber security, CRM, web development, and more.
- Tech Employment – where veterans can work with leaders in corporate hiring and culture through professional development workshops to refine their LinkedIn profiles, elevator pitches, and other key tools used during the hiring process.
- Tech Entrepreneurship – where veterans can learn how to start or grow a business by learning about design thinking, business law, lean methodologies, and securing VC financing.
"Eighty percent of service members transition out of the military without a career path," said Katherine Webster, Founder of VetsinTech. "We are proud to partner with innovation leaders and corporations to bring veterans opportunities to discover meaningful careers in technology."
"As a veteran who has had success in technology, I am very aware that there is so much we can do to assist our country's veteran community," says Mike Powers, Veterans and Disabilities Outreach lead for TEKSystems, title sponsor for the event. "The Invasion represents a key moment for technology leaders to build a stronger bridge with military vets, and offer meaningful resources at a critical time in a service member's transition to civilian life."
