CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Nov. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The unique partnership of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School and the non-profit Institute for Defense and Business (IDB) has enrolled their seventh class in the IU-UNC LogMBA, their renamed defense and government oriented logistics and technology MBA program. The new name better reflects the strength of the business schools underpinning this well-respected program, which was previously known as the "LOGTECH MBA."

The IU-UNC LogMBA is ideally suited for highly-motivated military, government and private sector students and focuses on how to best apply business principles to create efficient and effective public and private organizations. The hybrid format, with both distance and in-residence studies, allows these students to remain in their jobs while simultaneously performing MBA coursework. The newest IU-UNC LogMBA class, including for the first time a number of students from the Department of Homeland Security, began their first residency at UNC Kenan-Flagler's Rizzo Center the evening of November 7, 2010.
"This new name better captures the unique strength of bringing together these two top twenty business schools, with the Kelley School of Business issuing the MBA degree and UNC Kenan-Flagler issuing a Certificate in Global Supply Chain Leadership to graduates of the program," noted Mark C. Cramer, IDB President. "The rankings of our partners continue to soar as well as the reputation of what we had been calling the LOGTECH MBA. IU-UNC LogMBA is a world class name for a world class program."
During the two-year program, approximately 80 percent of the academic work is accomplished online. Online delivery is complemented by three one-week residency periods in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and one ten-day international study tour alternating between Europe and Asia each year.
The program is designed to maximize the return on investment for private sector and government participants. This is done by focusing on immediate workplace application of knowledge gained in the classroom and enhancing the learning experience by incorporating real-world challenges, projects, and team work. The customized program is also designed so that military students, who might be deployed during the program, are later able to continue their studies.
Students in the seventh class of the program represent the following organizations:
-Private Sector: The Boeing Company, Logistics Management Institute (LMI), and Science Applications International Corporations (SAIC)
-Military/Department of Defense: Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, U.S. Transportation Command (U.S. Air Force student)
-Department of Homeland Security: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Logistics Centers, FEMA Logistics Management Directorate, Office of Intelligence and Analysis and U.S. Customs and Border Protection
