The Inspiring Body of Christ Church Set to Hold Candlelight Vigil, "Unknown Dead: Why Them?"
DALLAS, July 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --The Inspiring Body of Christ Church (IBOC) and Pastor Rickie G. Rush will host a candlelight vigil to shed a light on the young, unknown victims of tragic, untimely deaths. The vigil, recognizing the many children who have passed without public awareness of their death, will take place during worship service at IBOC's campus on Sunday, July 30th at 10:00 AM. All are encouraged to join and experience this uplifting event as we work towards bringing healing to our communities.
Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Jordan Edwards —all are cases of needless, heartbreaking deaths of children that were highly publicized in the media. But what about those children whose deaths go unnoticed? Unknown Dead: Why Them? aims to recognize those young people. Whether victims of homicide, abuse, neglect, bullying, suicide, cancer, or other untimely deaths, IBOC and Pastor Rush will light a candle on their behalf, leaving thousands of lights to shine for those who are unable to shine any longer. Not only will Unknown Dead: Why Them? celebrate and acknowledge those young people, the event will recognize and offer support to parents, siblings, and friends faced with the devastating loss of a young person close to them.
While unintentional injuries hold the number one spot as cause of death in young people, suicide and homicide are the second and third largest causes of death in teens. The Associated Press and USA Today Network reported that in 2016, a child was killed at least every other day to gun accidents. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reported in 2014 that 1,546 children died from neglect or abuse. Pastor Rush states, "Although many young people's untimely deaths never make national, state, or local news, they still deserve a place in Heaven's headlines." The vigil will not only intend to honor the deceased, but increase awareness of these preventable, horrific deaths.
The candlelight vigil will take place at IBOC, located at 7701 S. Westmoreland Rd. Dallas, TX 75237. Members of the congregation and broader community are invited to come and collect a tea light to participate in the candlelight vigil and a church blackout. The lights will burn long into the night, placed in windows to represent all young people who have passed.
