NEW YORK, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hedge Fund Journal in association with EY recently announced the 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds 2017. The fifth edition of the biennial survey recognizes 50 female hedge fund leaders based on interviews with industry experts in Asia, the US and Europe. Judges used a variety of criteria to select for the list, including the level of responsibility while managing money and/or a business.
"EY is proud to recognize the phenomenal accomplishments of the 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds, an impressive group shaping the future of our industry," said Natalie Deak Jaros, a Partner in the Financial Services Office of Ernst & Young LLP and the EY Americas Hedge Fund Markets Co-leader. "As the leading global provider of services to hedge funds, we are proud to be a champion for diversity and inclusiveness. It is a reason we were ranked No. 1 on DiversityInc's 2017 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list."
According to hedge fund data provider Hedge Fund Research, Inc., (HFR) women lead only about 2 percent of hedge funds. However, HFR research shows that in the first few months of 2017, women-run hedge funds outperformed those run by men by 1.42 percent and brought in 1.39 percent more in returns.
"It's an honor to be recognized as one of the 50 leading women in hedge funds and to represent EY on this list," said Zeynep Meric-Smith, Co-Leader, Hedge Funds Sector, Ernst & Young LLP (UK). "There is still much work to be done to achieve gender parity, not just in the hedge fund sector but in the business world at large, so it's exciting to see this recognition for so many outstanding women in our field."
The 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds 2017 includes 45 women making their first appearance on the list, including 21 portfolio managers, with the remaining coming from various backgrounds including sales, investor relations, marketing, law, prime brokerage, operations, allocations, and research. The report also includes portfolio managers at large hedge fund managers and credit houses, entrepreneurs who have launched their own companies and women in senior quantitative roles.
"This is the fifth edition of this biannual report and interest in the report continues to grow. We hold events in New York and London to accompany the launch of the report and both events – New York on 31 May and London on 6 June – were sell-outs. We are very grateful to EY who have sponsored the last four reports," said Rod Sparks, publisher, The Hedge Fund Journal.
