The "Best Places to Work in Insurance" program is a collaborative effort between Business Insurance and the Best Companies Group, an independent company that manages "best places" programs for a variety of industries. The program was open to all property and casualty insurers, group life/health insurers, agents and brokers, reinsurers and third party administrators.

Companies were selected as best places to work based on two-part assessments. The first part of the assessment consisted of confidential employee surveys to evaluate each nominated company's workplace practices, philosophies, systems and demographics. The second part of the assessment was based on an evaluation of each company's benefits programs, policies and other factors.
