The GREATEST TANK BATTLES are Brought to Life in Military Channel's Newest Series, Premiering January 5
SILVER SPRING, Md., Dec. 21, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Capturing the intensity of a tank battle from the heart of the action has been a mission impossible for filmmakers who must always take a safe position at the edge of the battlefield. Now, Military Channel's new action-packed series GREATEST TANK BATTLES brings to life the most gripping and monumental battles ever fought on the front lines with these weapons on wheels. Filmed on battlefields across the world, the series uses stunning, ultra-realistic CGI animation to recount the step-by-step maneuvers used in the most colossal combats from the last century. In each episode, viewers witness the gritty realism and experience the thunderous tanks from perspectives never before possible. Coupled with first-hand accounts from the eyes of the very soldiers who manned the guns and guided the monster machines, this new original series puts viewers right in the heat of the action and inside the tank's atmosphere. As ten, one-hour episodes, GREATEST TANK BATTLES premieres on Wednesday, January 5 from 10-11 PM (ET) on Military Channel.
"While each episode of GREATEST TANK BATTLES captivates viewers by reliving those pivotal moments of warfare on the battlefield where each decision is do or die, the heart of this series is hearing the first person accounts from the real soldiers – and heroes – who lived through it all," said Henry Schleiff, president and general manager, Military Channel.
The premiere episode of GREATEST TANK BATTLES provides an in-depth account of the Gulf War's "Battle of the 73 Easting." As one of the most studied tank battles of modern times, this episode looks at how the American 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment used superior equipment and training to overcome a blinding sandstorm and hundreds of tanks manned by Iraq's elite Republican Guard. Other battles profiled in the series range from the 1973 Battle for the Golan Heights, where a few outnumbered tankers managed to hold off an enemy of overwhelming size, to the largest tank battle in military history, as elite SS troops faced off against Russian defenders at The Battle of Kursk on July 12, 1943.
GREATEST TANK BATTLES is produced by Breakthrough Entertainment for Military Channel. For Breakthrough, Ira Levy and Peter Williamson are executive producers. For Military Channel, Jack Smith is executive producer, Sara Kozak is vice president of production and Henry Schleiff is president and general manager, Military Channel and Investigation Discovery.
