BOSTON, Oct. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, today announced its seventh annual Holiday Meal Drive. The drive helps to ensure that families in need across Eastern Massachusetts can partake in the tradition of a nutritious holiday meal. From Oct. 16 until Dec. 31, individuals and teams can donate online to help GBFB reach its goal of providing 12 million healthy meals during the 2017 holiday season.

GBFB encourages local businesses, clubs, church groups, families, friends and surrounding communities to start a Holiday Meal Drive fundraising team as a fun way to challenge each other to achieve a fundraising goal. To donate as a team or as an individual, please visit http://www.gbfb.org/holidaymeals/.
A $20 donation provides a healthy holiday meal for five, including turkey and traditional fixings, such as green beans, corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, squash and apples. Alternative options include chicken and fish for those with dietary restrictions.
"With more than 500,000 people in Eastern Massachusetts not knowing where their next meal is coming come from, our Holiday Meal Drive goal is to help our neighbors struggling with hunger enjoy a healthy holiday meal they could not afford otherwise," said Catherine D'Amato, president and CEO of GBFB.
The Holiday Meal Drive originally launched in 2010 to provide individuals and families across 190 Eastern Massachusetts cities and towns with nutritious meals during the holiday season. Ninety-two cents of every dollar received goes directly to help end hunger.
