Dr. White's speech will review four emerging trends in 21st century psychology: multicultural psychology, positive psychology, social justice and the emergence of women as a force in psychology. Integrating these four emerging trends can be a foundation for new directions in psychology. The event is closed to the public, but limited passes are available for the press. Please contact Elinor Gilbert. Cell: (213) 304-6422.
Dr. White's seminal article in Ebony magazine in 1970, "Toward a Black Psychology," was instrumental in beginning the modern era of African-American and ethnic psychology. For the past 50 years, he has enjoyed a distinguished career in the field of psychology and mental health as a teacher, mentor, administrator, clinical supervisor, writer, consultant, and practicing psychologist. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of California, Irvine.
"TCSPP is training the next generation of psychologists to respond to the mental health needs of multi-cultural communities, including the issues facing our returning war veterans," said Dr. Pat Breen, president of The Chicago School's Chicago Campus. "Our unique educational model, known as The Engaged Professional Model, allows students to learn work in real-world settings with nonprofit organizations while attending classes. Upon graduation, our students are well prepared and ready to work."
