The Forum will bring together a total of 51 speakers from 45 countries addressing the 206 delegates from 173 advocacy organisations and 43 national and regional NCD Alliances. The prominent speakers are from eminent organizations in NCD advocacy and include: Dr Cary Adams, CEO Union for International Cancer Control (UICC); HE Ameera BinKaram, President of the Board of Directors, Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP); Dr Jose Luis Castro, Chair Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance; HRH Princess Dina Mired, Director General, King Hussein Cancer Foundation, Honorary Chairperson of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program; HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, King Hussein Cancer Foundation; Sir Trevor Hassell, President, Healthy Caribbean Coalition and Government of Barbados Special Envoy on NCDs and Chairman of the Barbados National NCD Commission; Sir George Alleyne, Director Emeritus, PAHO, NCD Alliance Expert Advisory Group; Professor Amanda Jane Ramirez, Professor of Psycho-Oncology and Liaison Psychiatry.
Most come from world leading global health organisations such as World Health Organization (WHO); United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the American Cancer Society (ACS). The event is a collaboration between FoCP and the NCD Alliance, which aims to unify global efforts to cut mortality caused by non-communicable diseases by 25% by 2025.
FoCP President BinKaram said, "NCDs are the leading cause of mortality in the world. This is an invisible epidemic and an under-recognized cause of poverty, hindering economic development of many countries. Accumulative economic losses resulting from NCD are expected to rise to $30 trillion. Therefore, this issue requires unified international effort and the urgency to find applicable solutions. The forum will draw up a common strategy, supported by global expertise, in the fight against NCD."
Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP) and International Ambassador for the World Cancer Declaration of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC, the event will take place at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Center.
