MT. HOPE, Ohio, Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Genie® Company is launching a new garage door controller, Aladdin Connect™, which allows remote access to monitor as well as change the open/close position of a garage door from a smart device. The Aladdin Connect controller provides security and convenience to an individual to control access of the garage door at their main residence, or if they choose, to instead control the garage door at a remote location, such as a vacation home or an elderly parent's home.
The Wi-Fi® enabled control module of the Aladdin Connect system, incorporating the low-power SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi CC3200 wireless MCU from Texas Instruments (TI), can be used in conjunction with, or in place of, the opener's standard wall console depending on what is more convenient. The system incorporates a door control module along with a door position sensor that attaches to the garage door. The sensor relays any change in its position to the control module, allowing the homeowner to know whether the door is open or closed. One sensor comes standard with the unit; additional sensors can be purchased to monitor up to three doors.
The UL 325 compliant system is designed to safely allow a homeowner to remotely operate the garage door. It does this by giving audible and visual notifications once the system is activated from the smart device, providing ample warning to anyone near-by that the door is about to move.
The application provides convenience and security by reporting every time the door is open or closed so the homeowner is aware of any activity related to the garage door's status. For further security, the homeowner is alerted as to whether the door changes to the fully open or closed position even if the door is operated manually by disengaging the door from the opener. This is because Aladdin Connect uses a sensor attached to the garage door. That's a big security advantage over other systems that are built into the powerhead itself and monitor just the opener, not the door position.
In the near future, the application will even allow homeowners to pre-schedule closing times. This means a homeowner will be able to set a predetermined time for when the door will automatically close if left open.
"A great option for homeowners joining the smart home movement, the Aladdin Connect system's wireless connectivity provides users with go-anywhere control of their garage door. Also, the system's secure Wi-Fi connection to the cloud gives homeowners real-time notifications of any garage door movements, easing the tension of being away from home," said Ram Machness, business line manager, wireless connectivity solutions, Texas Instruments.
According to Wayne Dickson, senior marketing manager for Genie, the Aladdin Connect system will initially be available for purchase this year through a variety of retail and professional channels.
"We are excited about this new product and its potential for homeowner satisfaction," said Dickson. "Having partnered with Texas Instruments, we know that this is a product that anyone with a smart device will be able to enjoy for years to come."
The Aladdin Connect controller can be used with a wide range of garage door openers available throughout the U.S. Consumers will be able to check the Genie website for up-to- date specifications for the product.
