The event entailed the participation of Mrs. Maria Franca Ferrero, President of Ferrero International as well as President of the Ferrero Foundation; Gian Luca Galletti, Italian Minister of the Environment; Giovanni Malagò, President of CONI; Mario Molteni, Professor, Cattolica of Milano and Agostino Macrì, Professor, Campus Bio-Medico of Roma. The event was opened by Ambassador Francesco Paolo Fulci, President of Ferrero SpA.
The report demonstrates how the Ferrero Group has social responsibility in its DNA. Innovation, care for people, transparency, support of the local communities, the promotion of active lifestyles, the safeguarding of the environment and a strong commitment to sustainable agricultural practices have made and continue to make the Group's history.
Giovanni Ferrero, CEO of the Ferrero Group, recalls in the introduction of the report how his father Michele had been a pioneer of CSR, pursuing a concept of work that places social aspects first and profit after: "the factory for man, not man for the factory".
Ferrero's new CSR strategy, centered on People and Plant, confirms the central role of the consumer, through the selection of the best ingredients, innovation, quality, small portions (85% of products smaller than 130 kcals) and transparency. Furthermore, Ferrero has always dedicated attention to the needs of people, through the Ferrero Foundation (over 3,500 retired collaborators and their spouses), the Ferrero Social Enterprises (3,539 collaborators) and Kinder+Sport, a programme that promotes active lifestyles (3.8 million children).
The Ferrero Group has given itself concrete objectives to achieve by 2020, to the development of sustainable agricultural practices and to minimising its environmental impact. In particular, the programme "Ferrero Farming Values" guides all of Ferrero's social responsibility activities carried out along the supply chains of its raw materials. The Group already reached the objectives of 100% sustainable RSPO certified palm fruit oil and 100% eggs from barn hens in Europe. Furthermore, in the year 2013/2014, the Group reduced its water consumption by almost 6% and CO2 emissions by 5% compared to the previous year; it has recovered 91.6% of waste and self-produced 70% of the electric energy consumed by its European plants.
