The Driehaus Museum Hosts Its Popular Annual Mother's Day Victorian Tea Service
CHICAGO, May 3, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Driehaus Museum's popular Mother's Day afternoon tea returns on Sunday, May 12. The Museum's Gilded Age ballroom will be transformed into an elegant Victorian tea room, the perfect place to indulge and celebrate mothers for all they do.
Invite your mother to enjoy a lovely afternoon tea menu that features an array of finger sandwiches, fine teas, and scrumptious sweets. The tea service showcases vintage tea cups, fine decor, and stunning floral displays. The delectable treats and unique setting will create special memories for mothers and children.
The Driehaus Museum's annual Mother's Day Tea falls this year on the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice. Special guest Jane Austen—played by the talented actress Debra Ann Miller—will appear at the tea. Through engaging conversation and quotes from letters, juvenilia, and novels, she shares about her childhood, siblings, and the loves and losses that shaped her life. Guests will learn more about the personal history of the author that influenced the mother-child relationships in Austen's novels.
Following each one-hour tea service, guests are treated to a complimentary guided tour of the Driehaus Museum.
There are two opportunities to attend this special event, commencing at either 11 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 for Museum members and $70 for the public.
Steps away from Chicago's Magnificent Mile, the Richard H. Driehaus Museum is a fascinating and rare example of the palatial homes erected by the wealthy of America's Gilded Age. The galleries are elegantly furnished with pieces from the most celebrated designers of the late 19th and early 20th century, such as Louis Comfort Tiffany and the Herter Brothers. These objets d'art are presented in harmony with the immaculately-restored interiors and surviving furnishings of the Samuel M. Nickerson Mansion, which was designated as a Chicago landmark in 1977.
