The Dearborn Inn Celebrates Its 80th Anniversary

DETROIT, Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Experience history in the making when you stay at the Dearborn Inn. Just having completed a multi-year, eight-million dollar renovation project, the hotel in Dearborn, MI, is pleased to share its most recent change --- a newly refurbished lobby --- with guests. While always grounded by its traditional roots of an American inn, the hotel has taken pride in its history providing guests with the most recent innovations and comforts.  

This fall, the landmark Detroit area hotel's lobby and adjacent sun porch were completely renovated.  The classic black and white checkerboard marble floor was restored to its original luster, and new hand-tufted area rugs and furnishings were installed. Paint colors were selected to highlight the Albert Kahn - designed architectural features such as pilasters, crown moldings, and the decorative ceiling filigrees that surround the original chandeliers. While all of the lobby seating consists of new, traditional furnishings, many of the desks and side tables have been carefully refinished to retain a sense of the past.

Also, just released from Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series is the new book, Dearborn Inn. The collection of more than 200 vintage photos follows the history of the hotel from its start as Henry Ford's hotel for Ford Motor Company's guests in 1931, to the world-class hotel it is today. Local author Jennifer Czerwick Ganem shares with readers the fascinating history of the charming inn just in time for its 80th anniversary, and is available for a book signing tomorrow from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm.
