The Consul General of The Australian Consulate in Chengdu visited West China Hospital of Sichuan University
CHENGDU, China, Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In June 2015, the 'West China Hospital - Marshall Center for Infectious Diseases and Research,' was jointly established by West China Hospital, Sichuan University and The University of Western Australia.
To further the cooperation between West China Hospital and Professor Barry Marshall, director of the research centre and winner of the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine, will promote the communication and cooperation between the two sides. Ms. Nancy Gordon, consul-general of The Consulate of Australia in Chengdu and Ms. Chrisrina Goodman, commissioner of Australian Trade Commission, paid a special visit to West China Hospital.
The deputy director of West China Hospital Ms. Cheng Jingqiu met the delegation on behalf of the hospital and extended warm greetings for their visit. Dr. Zou Ling, director of the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation of the hospital, presided over the symposium.
The staff members of the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation briefly introduced West China Hospital in terms of history, development, clinical construction, management systems, student training, scientific research, performance and other aspects.
Professor Tang Hong, director of the infectious disease centre, introduced the date of establishment, the organizational structure, the current cooperation projects and the development of the research center as well as the historical and cooperation background between West China Hospital and The University of Western Australia.
Ms. Gordon Nancy was very pleased with the achievements of the visits between the two sides in the past few years, and expressed the expectation on further cooperation with the West China Hospital. The Australian side spoke highly of the research level of our hospital and appreciated the great importance that we attached to the cooperation with them. Ms. Gordon Nancy said they would continue to strengthen the cooperation with our side and was willing to recommend other Australian universities to cooperate with us, further promoting the exchange between Australian students and West China Hospital.
The West China Hospital - Marshall Center for Infectious Diseases Research is the first joint research centre of the University of Western Australia with Noble Prize winner Professor Barry Marshall, recently established in China. The infectious disease research center of West China Hospital will make full use of the joint research centre to establish substantial cooperation with high-level international research teams in the field of infectious diseases and to enhance the academic status and international influence of West China Hospital in other related fields.
