The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico Remains Unchanged
NEW YORK, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico was unchanged in April, remaining at 102.5 (2010 = 100), following a 1.3 percent increase in March, and a 0.3 percent decline in February.
At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for Mexico, a measure of current economic activity, increased 0.3 percent in April to 115.7 (2010 = 100), following a 0.3 percent increase in March, and a 0.3 percent increase in February.
The LEI for Mexico was unchanged in April after a sharp gain in March. The six-month change in the index, however, remains in negative territory. Nevertheless, the pace of decline has eased considerably in recent months. Meanwhile, the CEI continued its upward trend through April, and its six-month growth rate has been steady. Taken together, the improvement in the six-month change in the LEI and the steady growth in the CEI suggests that Mexico's economic growth is likely to improve, albeit at a modest rate in the coming months.
About The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico
The composite economic indexes are the key elements in an analytic system designed to signal peaks and troughs in the business cycle. The leading and coincident economic indexes are essentially composite averages of several individual leading or coincident indicators. They are constructed to summarize and reveal common turning point patterns in economic data in a clearer and more convincing manner than any individual component – primarily because they smooth out some of the volatility of individual components.
