The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico Increases
NEW YORK, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico increased 0.7 percent in May to 122.7 (2004 = 100), following a 0.8 percent increase in April and a 0.1 percent decline in March.
At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for Mexico, a measure of current economic activity, increased 0.4 percent in May to 124.2 (2004 = 100), following a 0.4 percent increase in April, and a 0.3 percent increase in March.
The LEI for Mexico increased in May for the second consecutive month. Although the six-month change in the index remains negative, the rate of decline has been easing rapidly from earlier this year. Meanwhile, the rate of growth in the CEI has continued to pick up, with widespread strengths among its components. Taken together, the recent improvement in both the LEI and the CEI suggests that the rate of economic expansion will likely pick up in the coming months.
About The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Mexico
The composite economic indexes are the key elements in an analytic system designed to signal peaks and troughs in the business cycle. The leading and coincident economic indexes are essentially composite averages of several individual leading or coincident indicators. They are constructed to summarize and reveal common turning point patterns in economic data in a clearer and more convincing manner than any individual component – primarily because they smooth out some of the volatility of individual components.
The six components of The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® for Mexico include:
Industrial Production, Construction Component

U.S. Refiners' Acquisition Cost of Domestic and Imported Crude Oil
