The Conference Board Governance Center Announces Formation of Task Force on Corporate/Investor Engagement
NEW YORK, Feb. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Conference Board Governance Center today announced the formation of a Task Force on Corporate/Investor Engagement.
Events of the past decade, from accounting scandals to the global financial crisis, have served to damage the reputation of business, contributing to a distrust of business in general. Globally, according to the 2013 Edelman Trust Barometer®, less than 20 percent of respondents trust business leaders. The Task Force was formed to bring directors of public companies and investors together to find solutions that will create a stronger corporate governance system and help to restore trust in business.
The Task Force is comprised of leaders of public corporations and investment firms and will be led by Patricia F. Russo and Simon M. Lorne. Other members of the Task Force include: Charles M. Elson, Margaret Foran, Fred Hassan, Lord Charles David Powell, Steven S. Reinemund, Paula Rosput Reynolds, Brian C. Rogers, D. Wayne Watts, and Ralph V. Whitworth.
"On behalf of the Task Force, we are looking forward to engaging with investors and corporate leaders to find actionable solutions for creating an optimal governance system that supports maximizing corporate value," said Ms. Russo. Mr. Lorne added, "We intend our research and recommendations to inform corporate directors, investors in public corporations, and public policy makers in decisions regarding investor engagement in the governance of public corporations."
The Advisory Board to the Task Force will hold public forums beginning February 27, 2013 to hear testimony and gather facts to inform Task Force deliberations. The Task Force report will be issued in the second half of 2013.
