PHILADELPHIA, June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) was named as one of the "2011 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles" by the National Business Group on Health (NBGH), a nonprofit association of large employers. The Children's Hospital was recognized for its commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging employees and families to support and maintain healthy lifestyles. CHOP was designated as a Gold Employer for its dedication in creating cultural and environmental changes.
CHOP was among 48 employers that received the 2011 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award on May 24 at the National Business Group on Health's (NBGH) Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being Leadership Summit, held in Washington D.C.
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was recognized for its Your Life, Your Work, Your Well-Being program, which provides many resources that promote employee well-being and work/life balance. Employees have access to health and wellness coaches, and behavior improvement tools including tobacco cessation programs, health risk assessments, biometric screenings, and targeted health interventions that are integrated with benefit and clinical programs. Specialized resources are also available for employees who are pregnant, sending a child to college or caring for an elderly relative.
"Our employees are one of our most valuable resources, and making sure they have the education and support needed to lead a healthy life is vital to ensuring they are at their best when caring for the patients we serve," said Rob Croner, senior vice president of human resources at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "The resources that CHOP offers its employees are informed by the latest research and trends in employee health care, and are constantly improving and expanding. The designation as a Gold Employer is an honor that underlines our efforts to make CHOP one of the best places to work in the region."
The Gold Award, for creating cultural and environmental changes that support employees who are committed to long-term behavior changes, is CHOP's third NBGH recognition.
